Mosaic Madness, Wall & Floor Patterns

Bisazza Wall Mural
I’ve been long drawn to beautiful mosaic tile patterns. Those little sparkly gems and intricacies make me want to set up a table and play with tiles. More recently I explored the Bisazza full wall sized panels as pictured above and they are every bit of pop or glamour that you want, depending on your selection. Currently I’m working on multiple bathroom layouts. We’ll be varying simpler geometric mosaics and versions of the same stone with lots of whites and that means a lot of pattern play to keep it interesting. Long the lover of whites, grays and blacks especially for bathrooms, here’s a  clean version of mostly geometric and patterned mosaics Always bedazzling, here’s a look at what some current mosaic & tile inspirations look like at our offices as we begin making choices for our Hidden Hills Remodel…

Love this incredible and classic pattern that can be used in small floor areas or for a backsplash… The 3-D quality is like an Esher drawing and adds a lot of excitement.

For those looking for a more subtle approach, these mosaic borders featured at Waterworks are elegant and detailed… the perfect accent to any clean and elegant space when your working with statuary white marbles and various white marble palettes.

Having a love affair with these mosaic borders. By simply adding the detail to the border it’s the perfect way to add just a touch of mosaic to any room. Those featured above can be found at Walker Zanger.

The sweetest mosaic in the Waterworks collection above. Love the mix of honed and shiny tiles that give these gems their sparkle. How sweet and glam to add these gems to a little girls bath.

This tile mosaic is comprised of glass, iridescent and matt and metalic that sparkles like a clear cut diamond… With names like Whisper, Oxygen & Platinum this blend makes me want to soak away my day with a twinkle in my eye… This is also found at Walker Zanger.

This mosaic is quite handsome. Although it will likely not make it into our project, the pattern is lovely as a a field tile or what we call a carpet or rug in a bathroom. You create a border with a this as a center and voila a tile carpet is born.

Check out these crazy water jet wall panels at Ann Sacks… I might select simpler designs, but I love the panel idea… What about you? Love it or pass?

OK now we’re talking wild, but the joy of hitting the market place as a designer is the joy of discovery and finding some of the furthest extremes and levels of an incredible art form, the tile mosaic.

On another note, also having a love affair with glass tile and their accompanying mosaics… perfect for our pool bath… Stay tuned for my next blog post for more on glass tile and glass mosaics.

New Designs for DeGournay Handpainted Wallpaper…

A special as an English rose, De Gournay handpainted wallpaper from across the pond are the penultimate wallcovering. Their patterns and papers are unique in that you can customize your design by selecting from various backgrounds of fine papers or silks. De Gournay papers are based on 18th Century historic chinoisserie designs and scenes, others are more contemporary. Some of you may be familiar with De Gournay, but do read on for a sneak peak at one of their latest creation, “Abstract Pines”.

“I indulged with one wall in my London living room covered in a gorgeous pattern.” says Gwyneth Paltrow in a recent Elle Decor Article, entitled 12 Things She Cannot Live Without.

De Gournay wallpapers can be historic or made more modern with a unique twist of color they offer. From vibrant red to the most exquisite blue backgrounds, De Gournay
will also add further antiquing to any of their designs.

The photo above was featured in AD of Sharon & Ozzie Osbourne’s home.

This Koi Fish design below is simply magical…

One of the best features is the handmade quality & selection process that goes into choosing the background and flower colors… Each one truly becomes a unique painting.

Here in Los Angeles, we have the experience and wisdom of boutique owner, Nicky Rising of Nicky Rising Ltd. on Melrose Avenue to help even the most astute designer through the process.

These wallpaper panels dress to impress and like fine dressing they do come with a price… Make no mistake, this is a high-end product and sold by the panel. A typical dining room can take about 20 panels, check with your designer.

For the traditionalists at heart, you’ll fall in love with the scenic views in these beautiful sepia-toned designs. I’m especially fond of “Early Views of India” as pictured below…

As promised my favorite new design “Abstract Pine”… shown below in Gold and Silver.

If you fall in love with the images, the showrooms who display the large wing samples of De Gournay wallpaper will delight your eye and your heart. I recently borrowed some large panels to bring to my client’s home. After several months, our order is due imminently and I can’t wait to reveal the pics after installation in my client’s Dining Room.
